It's a method of managing money where you only purchase things that you have the cash to back up. It's a lifestyle rooted in being deliberate with money by living within your means.
It doesn't mean keeping your money under the mattress or not having any bank accounts (though, it can if that's what suits you!)
Money literally goes into an envelope. Yes, you can use regular mailing envelopes for this method - I prefer the small ones.
Determine how much money you want to spend in different areas (like eating out, entertainment, or coffee runs to start.) Put the cash in an envelope and instead of using a debit or credit card, which are proven to promote overspending, use the cash from your "cash envelope."
Label what the envelope is for to keep your spending in check.
Cash envelopes keep you on track with budgeting and spending. You cannot spend more money than you have in your envelope!
The basics of budgeting are managing what money comes in and how much goes out (to bills, expenses, spending, etc.) Budgeting gives you the control of directing where you want your money to go instead of wondering "Where does all my money go?"
Budgeting makes it even easier to fill your cash envelopes, by the way!
Sure you can!
How is this method working for you now? For me, and many others, cash envelopes are tried and true. Using cash up front - instead of debit cards - makes spending much easier to track.
Spending and lifestyle habits are often the cause of feeling like you don't have money when your income statements reflect otherwise.
With just a few practical strategies, you can take control of your approach toward spending and saving.
Creating a budget is the first step to winning with money. Identifying your core expenses and "stuffing" your envelopes with cash for those expenses is a step in the right direction.
You can start your system with plain mailing envelopes and a notebook. Don't invest a lot of money in fancy envelopes or budget sheets. Once you know what and how many categories you will need (and you are using them!) should you go and buy fancier materials.
When I started 10 years ago, I wish that I had someone to mentor me! I would have avoided trial and error telling me there was a better and more efficient way. (I would have gotten out of debt MUCH FASTER too!)
Within a community you have a group of mentors in different stages of their cash envelope adventure - all with different situations and solutions. Is a paid community necessary? No. There are plenty of free resources online. However, within this community, you get live group coaching, quick responses to questions both from me and from members, and the inspiration, accountability, and support that you just cannot get on your own.
Though cash envelopes are the focus of the group, we discuss other topics like budgeting, saving, reaching financial goals, and much more!
Google financial coaches online and you will get a range of prices. You will likely see most rates in the hundreds of dollars per hour. I'm on a mission to help women by making financial coaching accessible and affordable.
Yes! At this time, I only offer individual coaching to members within my community at a discounted hourly rate. We'll focus on your financial goals and the most efficient way to meet them.
People pay for what they value. I would love to help you find where you can pay for what is most important to you - not just for financial coaching. Your entire lifestyle can be affected by a few simple changes in the way you handle money.
This is based on your commitment to your finances. Members report significant changes within their first month. Of course, results vary.
I am a trained financial coach, and this is my way of helping those who may not be interested in cash envelopes but just need a guide to get their money on the right track.
The community subscription is billed monthly. Refunds are not available. You are free to cancel your membership at any time.
No hard feelings. Accept my free gift here as my way of saying thank you for your interest.
Yvonne Ruiz has lived a cash-only lifestyle for over 10 years, making it a fun adventure for her family of six. They eliminated nearly $65,000 of debt on ONE income thanks to her husband's hard work, her clever use of cash envelopes, and by implementing the debt snowball method.
Yvonne's passion to help women overcome the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle led her to become a Certified Master Financial Coach through Ramsey Solutions.
